Our Story

Alef is housed in the National Library of Israel in Jerusalem, a building acclaimed worldwide as one of the most remarkable public buildings in Israel.

Alef belongs to the spirit of the place, offering carefully made food in the middle of an inspiring cultural space.

The idea for Alef took shape over two years of planning, alongside the building of the Library itself. We wanted a brand shaped by the architecture, culture and energy of the space. The result is a culinary house with many sides, in step with the building around it.

Alef is a café, bakery and pâtisserie, with Grab & Go, catering and hosting platters. What connects all of it is a careful, handmade, high-quality product and warm, attentive service.

Our event spaces, designed by Herzog & de Meuron, are a beautiful setting for events of every size. Elegant design and well-crafted menus let us host events at the highest level, as well as relaxed lunches, pizza and beer, or coffee and a pastry after a visit to the Library.

Beyond the Library, Alef runs a full hospitality and catering operation, bringing our food to museums, cultural institutions, campuses and premium events across Israel.
